Preparing to List Your Home in January

  1. CURB APPEAL - Keep your yard clear of leaves and limbs and your sidewalk and walking paths clear of snow. It is also a good idea to keep porches, patios & decks cleared of snow. This allows potential buyers to view your home without any distractions. Touching up exterior paint where needed gives good first impressions.

  2. HOLIDAY DECOR - While a simple winter wreath is acceptable, remove any holiday decorations. Now is a good time to de-clutter if you are thinking about listing.

  3. EMBRACE WINTER SCENTS - The right scents can make your home much more inviting. Candles and diffusers are simple inexpensive ways to make your home a more welcoming place. Specifically, evergreen, peppermint & cinnamon are good choices for the winter months.

  4. REMODEL WHERE IT'S NEEDED - Simple low cost options are replacing fixtures, drawer handles or repainting cabinets. Renovations such as updating an older kitchen or bathroom add to the home's appeal and overall value. Sometimes a fresh coat of paint can completely change the look of a room. Remodeling during the winter is a good option because contractor's are usually less busy during the winter.

  5. MAKE SURE YOU PRICE IT RIGHT - Price your home competitively. With current market trends, homes that are priced right will sell quickly. Flattering, high quality photos are a must. Adding in other seasonal photos are also a great option.
