Bringing in the new year is always a good time to reset and start anew. Some simple things everyone can can do to brighten up the new year.
1. Clean light bulbs and fixtures: Dirty bulbs tend to shed less light than clean ones. With shorter days, having as much light in the house as possible is a great way to keep out the winter blues. Using a mixture of 1 oz. dish soap, 1/4 cup white vinegar, and 3 cups of water and a damp cloth with down bulbs.
2. Home Owner's Insurance: Call your insurance agent to reevaluate your coverage; what you already have and what you really need. With the increase in building materials and home values if you were to have to file a claim you might not be completely covered for all the costs.
3. Should you have a home emergency kit: In light of recent storms and tornados we have experienced in our area, the last thing you want to have to think about is what to do in case of a weather related emergency. Using a plastic tote, pack it with bottled water, blankets, flashlight with batteries, portable phone/tablet charger, first aid kit and a hand-crack radio.
